Powerfully upsetting in its depiction of the oppression and injustices that were committed against the Sámi by the church and state in the 19th century, The Kautokeino Rebellion is a successful and interesting dramatization of true events. Anni-Kristiina Juuso, Mikael Persbrandt, and Bjørn Sundquist give noteworthy performances in this well-acted film. Nils Gaup's direction is straightforward and restrained. The movie contains beautiful shots of the landscape and nature, and the crisp cinematography effectively captures the cold climate.
Original title: Kautokeino-opprøret; Swedish title: Kautokeino-upproret
