Australia (2008)

Despite its shortcomings, Australia is a technically accomplished film and a great cinematic experience. The film, directed by Baz Luhrmann, is quite manipulative and slightly too self-conscious about its epic aspirations, but not in a particularly distracting or objectionable way. Brandon Walters's impressive, natural performance as Nullah is one of the best things about the entire movie; Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman are solid and work well together, even though the chemistry between them is uneven; David Wenham and Bryan Brown are sufficiently villainous. The cinematography is wonderful and really captures the beauty of Australia.
